Department Mission Statement

To protect agricultural and environmental resources, ensure the safe use of pesticides, provide consumer protection and ensure equity in the marketplace

Percent of SFO Shipments Inspected with Actionable Pests is Decreasing

  • Asian Citrus Psyllid suppression
  • Agricultural Ombudsman, and "As Fresh As It Gets!" Ag community support
  • Weights and Measures program updates
  • Weed management projects and Jubata grass treatments
  • Community outreach and education
  • Succession planning and staff development
  • Customer / Industry satisfaction, and performance assessments for all staff

FY 2017-19 Goals

  • Assist with development of County Medical Marijuana policy
  • Distribution of updated and redesigned Customer Satisfaction survey
  • Outreach, education, and compliance of Ag community concerning regulatory changes 
  • Installation and implementation of California Pesticide Enforcement Activity Tracking System (CalPEATS)
  • Investigation, mitigation and resolution of workplace related illnesses and complaints 
  • Deliver a high level of customer service and employee satisfaction

FY 2017-19 Challenges

  • Development of County Medical Marijuana policy
  • Ongoing development and testing of electronic pest detection trapping program
  • Continued staff development, training, and assignment
  • Increasing pest introductions and pest exclusion 
  • State and federal funding for pest exclusion programs
  • Addressing public concerns and complaints with lawful agricultural activities
